PAA Goes to ASPA

There were enough members wanting to attend the American Society for Public Administration Awards Banquet that PAA purchased a table. We watched our own Dr. Iris Baxter win the Scoville Award for Academic Excellence. ASPA is the premier public administration society in the country and the Los Angeles Metro Chapter held the annual awards dinner at CSUDH this year. The chapter was well represented by Lisa Prosser, James Hampton, Johnny Thomas, Deidre Knighten, Lori Minor, Muriel Kelly, David Karber, and Theo Byrne. We hope that future events such as this most prestigious one will be held at our own beloved Dominguez Hills.

$500 Scholarship Winner

The 2009 CSUDH Pi Alpha Alpha Scholarship winner this year was Glenn Heald, who wrote a truly outstanding essay on this year's topic, "What is the biggest problem facing the United States  today?" Glenn wrote about how we need more people to stand up and do their duty by themselves and others and do what is right not just what is easy. It's a very good thing Glenn is going into public administration, we're glad to have him! Glenn will also be honored at this November's CBAPP Awards Luncheon, which is given to honor all scholarship and award recipients. See Glenn in slides number 6 and 7 in the Honor's Reception slide show on the Initiates page.

The Chapter is proud to announce the first ever Public Sector Connection (networking mixer), which was held on November 12, 2008 at 5:30-7:30 in Loker Student Union. This event was a chance for current PA/CJ students and alumni to network and find mentors as well as post their resumes or check for jobs on the new Toro Jobs system presented by Student Development. The turn out was fantastic and by all accounts the event was a success. We had about 100 attendees and everyone had a great time and enjoyed some excellent food. We hope to make this event a part of our continuing service to our members.
