Awards Luncheon Doubles in Size and Impact

The annual CBAPP Awards Luncheon serves dual purposes of honoring a select number of those within the College’s external community who have made incredible achievements and raising money for student scholarships and faculty development. In its second year in existence, the event sold out the Loker Student Union Grand Ballroom last month and developed a novel approach for the typical awards banquet in the process: let businesses buy tables in support of the event but suggest they give up their seats if they can’t attend or can’t fill all the seats at the table so that CBAPP students can come face to face with some of Los Angeles’s top business and public policy leaders. 10 Questions…on the Economics of Healthcare for Rod Freed
Professor Rod Freed is no healthcare expert. Rather, he’s an economist; he thinks in dollars and cents terms. So for Freed to suggest that perhaps some form of universal healthcare may be the most viable option for the United States, well, that’s a conversation worth exploring. Full story

CBAPP Hosts Seminars on Entrepreneurship for Nicaraguans
When the Business Training Center at El Camino College hosted a professor and executive from Nicaragua for two weeks last month to help give them expertise on entrepreneurship, El Camino called on CBAPP to host a day full of seminars and discussions. CBAPP selected some of its leading professors and Advisory Board members involved with the Institute of Entrepreneurship, Small Business Development and Global Logistics to deliver the presentations. The goal was to give the two representatives from the Central American country the tools to develop forms of entrepreneurship when they returned home. Full story

Verizon Delivers $50,000 Gift to Outreach and EOP

On Nov. 3, Verizon presented a check for $50,000 to the Evening at Dominguez program conducted by the office of Outreach and Information Services and the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at CSUDH. The programs, which are tailored toward the needs of first-generation college students and their parents, provide recruitment and information to students interested in the university and academic support and mentoring once they enroll. Advisory Board member Gerardo Pinedo (B.A. Interdisciplinary Studies, 1981) was appointed the interim director of Government Relations & Policy for the Department of Health Services of the County of Los Angeles in November. Previously, Pinedo served as the County’s senior legislative deputy.
