Library Expansion Campaign Launched
The CSUDH Library kicked off its Library Enhancement Campaign on Nov. 17 with a reception in the current library. The Enhancement Campaign is designed to supplement funding for the library’s new addition. Construction on the new building will begin next spring with the 140,000-square-foot new library opening in the fall of 2007.

“With this reception, as well as the campaign itself, we hope to focus the attention of the University community on this major project that will double our current space in the library,” says Library Dean Sandra Parham. “We are asking for all friends of the library to assist us with making the library a state-of-the-art facility.” Mostly funded by Proposition 55 in 2004, this new structure will incorporate all traditional library functions as well as technological advances needed to prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century. The Library Enhancement Campaign will supplement state funds for building construction, library services, a book endowment, computers, and upgrades to the current building.

The new CSUDH Library Extension/Addition will include

  • A 140,000-square-foot five story addition to the south side of the existing library.
  • An additional 1,600 reader stations will accommodate students.
  • Three additional computer learning labs.
  • State-of-the-art Archival facilities for the CSUDH Archives and Special Collections and the CSU System Archives.
  • An events center/gallery and a multicultural reading room.
  • Doubling of book stacks and compact storage.
  • 250 computer work stations.
  • A new Center for Teaching and Learning.
  • Glass bridges connecting the new and old library.
  • A large courtyard that will allow for a relaxed outdoor learning environment.

The arrival of a library addition presents a variety of opportunities for recognizing special contributions to the campaign. One wall of the new library will be dedicated to recognizing donors to the campaign. All contributors, regardless of gift amount, will be listed in an official Roster of Donors, which will be permanently bound and maintained by the library.
