Iris Baxter welcomed
Gerardo Pinedo, senior deputy to L.A. County Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke, as the
newest member of the CBAPP Advisory Board and Sub-committee in October.
Public Policy Carves Niche on Advisory Board
The CBAPP Advisory Board stands as one of the College’s greatest recent
improvements with 35 of the region’s top business executives now actively
involved with the campus. Yet, it has focused exclusively on the business
side of the College. Until now. A new Public Policy Sub-committee was
launched this fall and features a growing number of some of the top leaders

10 Questions…on Arnold’s
180 for Alan Fisher
Do you
remember what happened on Nov. 8, 2005? Professor of Political Science Alan
Fisher prophesied that you wouldn’t remember in a story for
The Report shortly
after the special election last year. That day, all of Gov. Schwarzenegger’s
propositions failed and many political commentators said he’d shuffle back to
Hollywood with his tail between his legs. Fisher thought differently,
foretelling of several measures the Governor would take (and did) to win back
public opinion in time for this month’s election. Here, he compares
Schwarzenegger to Bill Clinton, explains why Arnold’s political acumen isn’t as
shabby as some think, and details what it means for democracy that a politician
can make such a dramatic 12-month turnaround. Full story

Entrepreneurship and Logistics Institute Receives Funding for Launch
Last month, the U.S. Small Business Administration approved CBAPP’s grant
proposal to establish the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Small Business
Development and Global Logistics within the College. With the push from
Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald as well as President James Lyons and
Provost Allen Mori, the program was funded by a grant of $493,000. The plan is
to use the money to launch the Institute with hopes of attracting donors to
permanently endow the Institute. Look for a more detailed story on this major
boost to CBAPP in the next issue of The Report.

D. Michael
Bargeron II (M.B.A., 1994) received the Donald Golder Memorial Scholarship for
his studies in the graduate education program at USC. Without applying for the
scholarship, the $2,500 award was given to Bargeron for his meritous achievement
within the program. Bargeron hopes to use his degree to teach graduate education
in the field of information technology.
Prakash Dheeriya, professor of accounting and finance, won the
“Market Cap Speak Out” competition in the online Investors Alley
newsletter for the week of Oct. 23 for his response to the question, “Is the
current market rally sustainable.” Dheeriya argued that the market rally is not
sustainable because it’s a seasonal fluctuation naturally found in business
cycles.
