Faculty and Staff Invest in LSU Expansion
On Sept. 23, faculty and staff came together to learn about and donate to the Loker Student Union (LSU) expansion during the Legacy Party, an event held to celebrate and pledge support to the new student union. Faculty and staff contributed $31,274 during the event, which, combined with previous pledges of $20,075, brings their total commitment to $51,349.

During the Legacy Party, architects Mehrdad Yazdani and Craig Hamilton of Cannon Design presented renderings and elevations of the $24.7-million-dollar renovation. Upon completion, the new union will employ a South Bay history theme and will include a 1,000-seat ballroom, an outdoor amphitheater, and several expanded offerings for students. Construction will get underway on Dec. 2 with a ceremonial groundbreaking, with plans for the new building to open in 2007.

“After all the years of planning, it’s really great to see this project moving closer to becoming a reality,” LSU director Kim Clark enthused. “I am pleased to see that the campus is so excited about it, as evidenced by the show of support from faculty and staff.”

In addition to the campus support, the capital campaign for the new student union has seen five-figure gifts from several local businesses, individuals, and the CSUDH Alumni Association.
