Faculty/Advisory Board Connections Come Away From Campus
Early last month, Dean Jim Strong opened up his Whittier house for the fall
semester kick-off Faculty-Advisory Board Annual Reception. It’s the third
year in a row that Strong has held the event, with the idea that it’s
important these two key CBAPP communities get to meet each other beyond the
walls of campus. Without overstating a party’s significance, it also helps
ideas germinate, folds advisory board members further into the day-to-day of
the college, and allows faculty members to voice ideas that they might not
otherwise. This year, faculty and advisory board members also had the
opportunity to meet CSUDH’s new president, Mildred Garcia, who attended.

10 Questions…on the
Marketing of China’s Product Recalls for Meng Zhao
Before he began his doctoral studies, Meng Zhao, assistant professor of
marketing, worked in the import/export industry for six years in his hometown of
Qingdao, China. Together with his marketing expertise, he thus serves as a
fitting expert to look at the recent product recall scares involving Chinese
manufacturers and some crafty and surprising marketing practices – on both sides
of the Pacific – that have ensued.

For the start of the fall semester, CSUDH Athletics debuted a new team logo

Newsmakers
Clarence Augustus Martin,
assistant vice president for faculty affairs, served as a guest panelist on
September 11 on KPVR, the National Public Radio station for California’s
Central Valley, to discuss the present day implications of 9/11 and the
future of terrorism. Martin is a well-known terrorism expert who has
published a number of books and articles on the subject.
Ginger Silvera (B. A., Public Administration, 2004; M.P.A.,
2006) traveled to Oxford, England over the summer to take an intensive
Globalization and Trade course at Oxford University, St. Peter’s College.
Currently in her Ph.D. program at Claremont College, Silvera was one of 30
students/professors taking the class and was one of only six Ph.D. students
involved. She was also recently hired as an adjunct faculty member at CSUDH,
teaching political science courses.
