Kerry Unveils Economic Plan at CSU Dominguez Hills
On Aug. 12, presidential candidate Senator John Kerry (D-Massachusetts) delivered an economic policy address in the University Theatre to a packed house of media, local dignitaries and members of the campus community. The event was web cast to hundreds of people around the world and covered by more than 250 television stations nationwide.

Beginning a two-week effort to highlight his economic programs, Kerry proposed $400 billion in tax breaks to help finance such areas as health care, childcare and education, which he said would benefit the middle class and help create jobs. The presidential hopeful also attacked the Bush administration for its proposed tax cuts, which he said benefit only the rich, and for a comment made earlier in the week by the President that a national sales tax was worth considering, which Kerry said would be "one of the largest tax increases on the middle class in history.”

"We know exactly who that's going to hurt," Kerry said. "That's going to hurt small business. It's going to hurt jobs. It's going to hit the pocketbooks of those who need and deserve tax relief most in America." Hosted by Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald (D-Cal., 37th District), who was the first to endorse the senator as a presidential candidate, notable attendees included former California Governor Gray Davis, California State University Chancellor Charles B. Reed, Los Angeles Mayor James Hahn and Carson Mayor Jim Dear.
