Summer Business Institute Inspires
Future Business Leaders
The wonderful thing about potential
is that you never know how far it can go until it’s turned into action. At least
that’s Anna Ouroumian’s view as the president and CEO of the Academy of Business
Leadership’s Summer Business Institute (SBI), a program held for underprivileged
11- to 18-year-olds at five Southern California universities including CSU
Dominguez Hills. She says the students walk away from the seven week summer
program with much more than a solid grasp of business concepts.

family-owned businesses for David Hoopes
Though many
researchers have long regarded family-controlled corporations as less efficient
or more susceptible to mismanagement than larger companies, David Hoopes,
associate professor of management, co-authored a paper this summer in Family
Business Review that argues the opposite is often true. Here, he explains the
management benefits to family-owned businesses and how that can impact your
investment strategy.

Five
Professors Join CBAPP's New Faculty Generation
On the heels of eight new faculty members brought on last fall, five new faculty
members have joined CBAPP this academic year. With six more positions currently
being recruited for next year, they represent the latest wave in the new
generation of CBAPP faculty with a variety of classroom and research experience
from around the world.

Sang Ok Choi,
assistant professor of public administration, presented “Network Analysis
of Workforce Development Programs” last month at the 2006 Academy of Management
Annual Meeting, held in Atlanta, Aug. 11-16.
Myron Sheu,
associate professor of computer information systems,
was recently granted tenure and promoted to associate professor.
Sheu also serves as the acting associate dean for the College.
Wang Wong,
professor of computer information systems,
was recently promoted to full professor.
Raoul Freeman, professor of computer information systems, had
his article, "IT Management Issues in Digital Government," published in the
Encyclopedia of Digital Government, which was released in July and serves as
an all-encompassing work in the emerging field of
e-government.
