Professor Larry Press led a team of faculty, staff,
students, and off-campus contractors who implemented a wireless Internet
network for CSUDH's dorms.
Dorms Go Wireless Thanks to CIS
A project developed by Larry
Press, professor of computer information systems, and students in one of his
advanced Network Based Applications 471 classes came to fruition last month when
the Wi-Fi Internet network in the CSUDH dorms passed its final testing phase.
Students living in the dorms will now have free access to the Internet from
anywhere within the 22-building community.

discusses why such a rash of small businesses have sprouted and how that has

When Supreme Court
Justice Sandra Day O’Connor stepped down last month, many discussed how a Bush
nomination to the court would change the decisions our nation’s top court makes
for the next 20 or so years. Whether it was a conservative or liberal shift, the
apparent power of the President to significantly influence the judicial branch
raises questions of whether the three branches of government still effectively
work to curb each other’s power from spiraling out of control. Here, Professor
of Political Science Richard Palmer discusses whether checks and balances are
alive and well or outdated and obsolete.

Boeing Delivers $6,000 in CBAPP
Scholarships
With more than 50
percent of CSUDH’s students reliant on financial aid to make a college degree
attainable, The Boeing Company pledged $6,000 in scholarships last month that
will help CBAPP students do just that. The pledge will also benefit faculty and
staff members in their research efforts.

Alumni Invited to
Summer Celebration at Pro Tennis Event
The CSUDH Office
of Alumni Relations welcomes all CSU System graduates to come to the First
Annual CSU Alumni, Family and Friends Summer Celebration at the JP Morgan Chase
2005 Open on August 13. The top women’s players in the world including Lindsay
Davenport, Serena Williams, and Maria Sharapova will be playing in the
tournament.

Terrorism Expert Speaks on London Bombings
Gus
Martin, associate professor and chair of public administration and public
policy, was interviewed on July 7 by TODAY-FM in Dublin, Ireland, about the
terrorist attacks that morning in London.

Newsmakers
Mike DiBernardo
(B.S. Business Administration, 1982) was recently appointed to Dean Jim Strong’s
Business Advisory Board. DiBernardo currently works as the director of planning
for the Port of Los Angeles where he prepares and maintains a long-range Port
Master Plan to guide the future development of the Port consistent with the
provisions of the California Coastal Act. In addition, his division provides
economic studies of proposed operational and facilities development as well as a
variety of research projects for the Port.
Mohammad Eyadat,
professor of computer information systems, received a letter of
recognition for serving as associate editor and track organizer for the
International Conference on Information Technology Coding and Computing, held by
the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in April in Las Vegas.
Eyadat was responsible for the “Software Engineering” track of the conference,
which recruited the second largest number of papers at the event.
Tracy Jordan
(B.S. Public Administration, 2000) recently began pursuing her doctorate in
public policy and administration. Jordan currently works as the HIV program
coordinator for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in the county jails.
