The interning students helped bring executives
from both the HDC and university together. |
Marketing Interns at HDC Bridge the Divide
As arguably the most successful partnership between CSUDH and the Home Depot
Center (HDC) since the multi-million dollar sports facility came to campus,
a group of marketing interns spent the academic year meeting high-power
executives, working HDC events, and developing the ideas, storyboards, and
budget for two proposed 30-second advertisement spots to promote the
university and partnership during events at the HDC. In the process, they
gained a slew of real-world experience, generated a buzz about the
program among students within CBAPP, and helped bring the two institutions
closer together.

Special Summer Series: Going Green
Beginning in this issue and running through the August issue, 10 Questions
will be devoted to the intersections of business, public policy, and the
environment.
10 Questions…on Integral
Sustainability for Annie Wilson
Political science lecturer Annie
Wilson has described herself as an environmentalist since the 1980s, but it
wasn’t until she came to study Integral Studies while completing her Ph.D. in
Political Theory and American Politics at Texas A&M that she started to
understand that only when others’ worldviews are considered can such issues make
headway. Wilson, who teaches “Global Planning Futures” and “Public Opinion and
Propaganda” within CBAPP, explains here when Corporate America will go green,
why the spotted owl still prompts hard feelings in Oregon, and why
environmentalists should start thinking like marketers. Full story

Students Get Port Tour
Advisory
Board member and alumnus Mike DeBernardo recently gave Assistant Professor of
Information Systems and Operations Management Hamid Pourmohammadi’s
“Introduction to Operations Management” and “Supply Chain Management” classes a
tour of the Port of Los Angeles at the end of April. The tour helped bring
concepts the students had learned in the classroom to life in the real world
applications of the port.
Newsmakers
Frank Strier, professor
of accounting and finance, had his
article, “Stealth Compensation,” published in the May issue of the
International Journal of Disclosure and Governance.
The article describes the ways some executives have disguised forms of
compensation in proxy statements, financial statements, and other
reports. It goes on to explain the problems with such forms of
compensation and suggests forms of corporate governance that could close
such loopholes.
