CBAPP Launches First Online Undergraduate Course, More to Come
In January, CBAPP’s first online class for undergraduates got underway. The Principles in Marketing class finished in April with astounding feedback on the course’s success, both from the students and the college itself. Spearheaded by Roger Berry, associate professor of marketing, and Dean Jim Strong, its success has led the college to plan to roll out seven more undergraduate classes online over the summer and fall. 10 Questions…for Hamoud Salhi on the Sunni/Shiite conflict
One of the major arguments against withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq is that the country will fall into civil war if U.S. forces leave, with Sunnis on one side and Shiites on the other. Assistant Professor of Political Science Hamoud Salhi , a Sunni Muslim who grew up in Algeria before coming to the United States, has visited the Middle East recently and presented lectures on the topic. Newsmakers

Iris Baxter, professor of public administration, will step down as chair of the Department of Public Administration at the end of this semester. She served as chair for two-and-a-half years and was praised by Dean Jim Strong for performing “outstanding work.” During her tenure as chair, at least two faculty searches took place, which resulted in the hiring of Marie Palladini and Rhonda Whitfield. Baxter also led the charge to revise the undergraduate public administration and M.P.A. programs, featuring the addition of the non-profit management concentration among other improvements. Baxter will return to the classroom and research and publication full time after stepping down.

Gilbert Ivey (B.A. business administration, 1975) presented “Is Water the Oil of the 21st Century?: Local and Global Issues Impacting a Vital Resource” at the College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences (CNBS) Distinguished Speakers Series Luncheon on March 28 in the Loker Student Union at CSUDH. Ivey is the assistant general manager and chief administrative officer for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWDSC).
