Model UN Students Receive Honors
CSUDH’s Model United Nations (MUN) class won top honors at the 2008 MUN meeting held in Santa Barbara, April 10-12. Students Mele Kaveinga and Chikezie Nwafor received two of the five awards given to the conference’s outstanding performers, for representing the International Criminal Court and United Nations Security Council, respectively. In addition, Joshua Braun received honorable mention for his representation of Malaysia in the United Nations Environmental Program. In total, 34 students represented 12 countries and international organizations from around the world.

MUN is a regular class offered by the Political Science Department each spring at CSUDH. The conference is part of the culmination of their work, where students debate, research, draft, and pass resolutions on a variety of topics such as the Arab-Israeli conflict and the rights of detainees. The delegates participated in five committees: the United Nations Security Council, UN Environmental Program, International Criminal Court, Special Commission on International Law, and Human Rights Commission. The delegates competed with 14 other universities from throughout the region and Alaska.
