CSUDH Named 2006 Millennium Momentum Ambassador of Education
In December, CSUDH received the Ambassador of Education Award at the
Millennium Momentum Foundation’s (MMF) Third Annual Opening Doors
Scholarship Awards. Because the honor is bestowed upon the one university
that has proven to be particularly committed to its public policy programs
and students within those programs, the honor thus serves as a direct
reflection of CBAPP’s focus on helping its students succeed.

Questions…on NAFTA the Dinosaur for Steve Jenner
In this era of globalization, the world’s superpowers are scrambling to sign
free trade agreements (FTAs) with smaller countries. Meanwhile, the FTA that
affects us most of all – NAFTA – is out of date. Steve Jenner, professor of
management, presented a paper at the International Business & Economy Conference
in San Francisco last month arguing just that. Here, he examines how the
agreement falls short even though it has achieved its main goals and what the
world must learn from it in the ongoing race to sign more FTAs.

Expanded Loker Student Union Makes Debut
After two years of construction, the expanded Loker Student Union (LSU)
officially reopened on Jan. 25 during a celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony. The
newly expanded LSU features a 500-seat ballroom, conference rooms, a fine dining
restaurant, a sports bar, lounge and study areas, and new office space for
several campus organizations.

Prakash Dheeriya,
professor of accounting and finance,
assumed the role of editor for the Journal of Online Business
at the beginning of 2007. An online refereed journal, Dheeriya was
formerly a reviewer for the journal.
Richard Malamud, professor of accounting and finance,
co-authored an article, titled “Mad Cows and Angry Plaintiffs: Why
Compliance with Governmental Regulations Will Not Protect Business from
Lawsuits by Individuals that Contract Mad Cow Disease,” with Richard O.
Parry of CSU, Fullerton in the Fall 2006 issue of the Drake
Journal of Agricultural Law. The
article discusses the legal issues that will have to be addressed if Mad
Cow disease cases are brought to the United States.
