The Donald Jones Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Criminal Justice Administration
Scholarship Information and Application Form
Academic Year 2009-10
Scholarship award of $500.00 per year
The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support to a student that is working towards a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Criminal Justice Administration, and has clearly expressed a strong desire to pursue a professional career in the field of law enforcement.
Students who meet the following criteria are invited to apply for this new scholarship in memory of Donald Jones who was a concerned community member who thought we should do our best to attract talented individuals and encourage them to join the police force
Eligibility: To qualify for this scholarship the student must be:
- a citizen of the United States of America;
- a student that has already demonstrated a strong ability to succeed in a university environment;
- currently holding at least a “C” average overall, and at least a “C +” average in your major concentration;
- enrolled in course work and/or service activities that show an interest in the field of law enforcement;
- capable of demonstrating their need for financial assistance, due to low income or large family size;
- willing to use the award to offset the costs of books and/or tuition associated with the pursuit of their degree;
- A continuing student or at least one semester in 2009-2010.
Application Procedure:
- Write a two-page personal statement of academic and professional career aspirations and goals. You may address what are your interests and what are your professional aspirations in the field of law enforcement.
- Request a letter of reference from a CSUDH faculty member.
- Submit unofficial transcripts with your application
- Submit the completed application form, unofficial transcripts, and personal statement to Professor Theodore P. Byrne, at the CBAPP Dean’s Office (SBS B306), no later than 5:00 pm on March 19, 2009. Students should be aware that this scholarship may alter their financial aid package.
Applicant Review process:
The applicant materials will be reviewed by a committee representing faculty of the Public Administration and Criminal Justice department. A member of the Jones family will also consult with the committee regarding the committee recommendation. This consultation preserves the central purpose of the award to recognize a student with a strong desire to pursue a professional career in the field of law enforcement.
Announcement and Award:
The announcement of the winner of the scholarship will be at the annual Honors Reception scheduled for April 17, 2009. A member of the Jones family will present the award.
