Apply for the Gil and Shirley Smith Scholarship
Public Administration students with career goals and/or research interests in current public sector issues are invited to apply for the Gil and Shirley Smith Scholarship. The scholarship award is $1000.
The award will be based on financial need, academic performance, and career goals or research interests in public sector issues.
Scholarship Eligibility:
- A returning undergraduate student in Public Administration and planning to attend at least one semester in the 2009-2010 academic year.
- 3.0 GPA in the major
- Financial need
- Commitment to attend the Public Administration Honors Banquet to receive award, if selected.
Application Procedure:
A student may apply for the Gil and Shirley Smith Scholarship by completing the application form supplied by the Public Administration department. To be considered for this scholarship, the student needs to write an essay that includes a description of their financial need and a discussion about his/her career commitment to public service. A statement of other pertinent information may be included. (max. 2 pages) Application and essay may be sent electronically to Dr. Rhonda Whitfield at rwhitfield@csudh.edu.
Deadline:
All applications must be received no later than 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2009. Notification of the award will be made by April 3, 2009. The recipient must attend the Public Administration Honors Banquet on April 17, 2009 to receive the scholarship award in person from Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
